Travellers can now enjoy 24/7 access to one of Nepal’s most treasured tourist destinations, Pokhara, as the government recently designated it as the official tourism capital of the Himalayan nation.
The announcement was made during a special ceremony at Barahi Ghat, located near the serene Phewa Lake, presided by Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Located in Gandaki Province, Pokhara is an iconic hill station in Nepal.

While Pokhara has always been a popular destination and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Nepal, its official recognition as a tourism capital sets the stage for future endeavours, offering global recognition, believes Mayor Dhanaraj Acharya.
According to reports, most entertainment facilities, including nightclubs and music venues, will now operate throughout the night, providing extended enjoyment for tourists and residents alike.
Various reports also suggest that restaurants, bars, spas, grocery stores, and snack outlets located in prominent areas in Pokhara, such as Lakeside, Prithvi Chowk, Mahendrapul, and Chipledhunga, can now remain open until 1:00 am, provided they adhere to prescribed norms, as announced by Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey.
Often referred to as a ‘jewel in the Himalayas’, Pokhara offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna range. Home to nine serene lakes, including Phewa, Rupa, and Begnas, it has earned the title of Nepal’s Lake City too. Nestled amidst lush green hills, it is a haven for adventurers, offering activities ranging from mountain climbing, trekking, and hiking to paragliding, fishing, and boating. Additionally, it is a favourite destination for honeymooners.
Located 200 km from Kathmandu, Pokhara makes up for many scenic tourist attractions in Nepal, including World Peace Pagoda, Davis Fall, Gupteshwar, and Seti River.
