Panchpokhari Kunda, a destination in Nepal’s Sindhupalchok district, is experiencing an unprecedented surge in tourist arrivals, particularly from Germany, the United States, and India. This growing interest highlights the area’s increasing global fascination as a hidden gem known for its natural beauty and spiritual significance.
The destination, whose name translates to “five ponds,” is a cluster of holy bodies of water. It is a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, who gather in large numbers for the Janai Purnima festival. Beyond its religious importance, Panchpokhari offers stunning natural scenery, including panoramic views of the Jugal mountain range, which adds to its appeal for international visitors and trekkers.
### Local Initiatives to Promote Tourism
In response to the growing interest, the Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality is actively working to promote the area as a key tourist destination. A promotional campaign titled “Let’s Visit Panchpokhari” was conducted from February 19 to 25, which included the launch of a promotional video. This initiative aims to attract both domestic and international adventure seekers to the region.
According to Tasi Lama, the chairman of the rural municipality, there is a focused effort on developing essential tourism infrastructure. These plans include the establishment of new trekking routes and the promotion of local homestays to accommodate the rising number of visitors. The goal is to sustainably manage the influx of tourists while enhancing the visitor experience and benefiting the local community.
