Experience more Singapore landmarks in a new way with AR
In 2023 Google and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) announced plans to launch augmented reality (AR) experiences that took people around Merlion Park and Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall via its “Visit Singapore Travel Guide” app using its mascot Merli.
To start off the 2024 travel season, this is being rolled out to even more locations around Singapore to make it easier for visitors to discover new sights and gain a deeper understanding of Singapore through AR storytelling.

In this latest launch, Merli guides visitors through six stops in Singapore’s Civic District and Chinatown. Using a mix of historical, cultural and culinary experiences, both tourists and residents alike can explore and learn more about these areas.
For example, they can visit Singapore’s first-ever post office at what is now the Fullerton Hotel and even send a virtual postcard to their friends or family. At Maxwell Food Centre, the interactive AR map of the popular food spot offers recommendations for must-try hawker dishes, helping first-time visitors visually navigate the vast range of food options.
