TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Singapore’s most iconic hotel Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is set to build its fourth tower on a vacant lot alongside its three existing towers flanked by Bayfront Avenue, Sheares Avenue, and Sheares Link, announced the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
Since its April 2010 opening, the integrated resort has grown to a gross floor area of 581,400 square meters, with roughly 1,850 rooms and suites, as well as over 74,000 square meters of retail and dining space.
At least 587 rooms, 12,185 square meters of retail space, and 153,100 square meters of hotel space will all be found in the new tower, which will be built on land leased until August 2066. The construction is scheduled to kick start in April 2024 by the original architect, Moshe Safdie.
The brand-new tower, which will include only suites, will have a live entertainment venue capable of accommodating at least 15,000 people. The upper levels will feature a sky roof with a swimming pool and other undisclosed tourist attractions.
The expansion project was designed to enhance the resort’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) capabilities in response to market demand.
“Design, development, and programming work for the fourth tower remain ongoing, with a focus on increasing the leisure and business tourism appeal of Singapore and MBS,” the resort’s parent company Las Vegas Sands (LVS) told The Star as quoted today, Feb. 1.
Under a partnership between the Singapore Tourism Board and LVS, the expansion project of Marina Bay Sands was first announced in April 2019 and was expected to be completed by April 8, 2028, with an estimated project cost of over SGD4.5 billion (about Rp53 trillion), taking into account inflation, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and other factors.
