South Africa’s electronic travel authorisation (ETA) portal has launched at eta.dha.gov.za as the initial phase of a planned global rollout. The Department of Home Affairs is implementing the system in stages, beginning with specific markets and expanding progressively.
Initial Rollout Phase
The ETA platform is currently operational for G20 delegates from China, India, Indonesia, and Mexico who are entering through OR Tambo and Cape Town international airports. The Department of Home Affairs indicates that if system stability is confirmed, access will be expanded to all travellers from these four countries, followed by rollout to all visa-requiring markets globally beginning in 2026.
Processing Capabilities
According to the FAQs section on the official website, 85% of applications are processed automatically using AI-powered risk assessment technology. The system is designed to process all applications within 24 hours.
