Marizanne Kapp, who starred for South Africa in the comprehensive win in the second ODI, said the victory was a historic day for her team.
“It’s a proud moment,” Kapp said.
“Not only for me but for South African cricket as a whole.
“We all know we’ve never beaten Australia in a one-day game. So, to be able to perform and help my team over the line is a massive achievement for me.”
The ace all-rounder had also top-scored for the Proteas in the first ODI in Adelaide, but was forced to retire hurt for 50*. She didn’t take the field in the game thereafter, as South Africa lost by eight wickets.
However, Kapp made a remarkable comeback in North Sydney, smashing 12 fours during her 87-ball 75, helping the visitors to 229/6 in 45 overs. Anneke Bosch (44) and Chloe Tryon (37) were the other major contributors with the bat.
