Tanzanian tour operators have welcomed the slashing of tourist guide licensing fees as a progressive step towards strengthening the sector and driving enhanced professionalisation.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism dropped the tour guide licence fee from US$50 to around US$13.6 (TZS35 000) from January 24.
This followed intensive engagements between the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) and the ministry. TATO Chairperson Wilbard Chambulo said the move is a crucial step towards fostering sustainable tourism growth while maintaining high industry standards.
