Global boxers vie for WMF title, celebrate Thai culture March 12-20 at Bazaar Hotel.

The World Muaythai Federation (W.M.F.) is set to host the 19th edition of the “W.M.F. World Muaythai Championship 2024,” featuring professional fighters from over 40 countries vying for the championship belt. This highlight event, enriched by demonstrations from revered Muay Thai masters, is scheduled from March 12-20, 2024, at the Bazaar Hotel, Bangkok.
A recent press conference unveiled key details about the upcoming championship, attended by W.M.F. President Lt. Gen Akachai Chantosa, Vice Presidents Gen Tunwakom Tippayachan and Mr. Supatchara Parnrostip, along with Ms. Thananchanok Panthawanan, Secretary to the President, event co-organisers, and international boxers.
Lt. Gen Akachai emphasised the championship’s goals: to elevate Muay Thai on a global platform and boost Thailand’s tourism appeal. This initiative aligns with the Thai government’s strategy to use Muay Thai as a form of soft power. The event, taking place at the Bazaar Hotel on Ratchadaphisek Road, Bangkok, will be broadcasted on TV Channel 5 and through their official Facebook page.
Mr. Supatchara highlighted the event’s adherence to the Sports Authority of Thailand’s regulations, ensuring a high standard of competition, safety, and cultural exchange. Over 500 participants from countries such as Australia, Italy, Kazakhstan, and many more, are expected to join.
The opening ceremony on March 14 will showcase traditional Muay Thai techniques by esteemed masters, a “Wai Kru” ceremony, and a Thai Silk Fashion Show, melding traditional textiles with Muay Thai attire to showcase Thai cultural heritage.
The championship not only celebrates Muay Thai but also contributes to Thailand’s tourism and youth engagement, steering them away from drugs and towards martial arts. Key sponsors include the Bazaar Hotel for hosting, Raja Boxing Corporation for equipment, Phyathai Hospital for healthcare services, and Chayanna Silk for additional vibrancy to the event.
