If you have an accident while traveling to Thailand, you can receive medical expenses of up to 37 million won.
According to foreign media such as The Economic Times, Thailand will implement a “traveler safety measure” that pays up to 1 million baht (about 37 million won) in medical expenses to attract foreign tourists.
According to the travel safety measures announced by the Thai Tourism Authority, foreign tourists receive up to 500,000 baht (about 18 million won) in medical expenses in the event of an accident. In the event of death, compensation of up to 1 million baht (about 37 million won) can be received.
However, accidents caused by carelessness or illegal activities of travelers are excluded from medical expenses support.
In order to receive medical expenses support, information must be registered on the ‘Thai Traveler Safety Website’. All tourists who visit Thailand for pure tourism with a valid passport can register information.
Sudawan Wangsufakijkosol, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, said, “The decision was made to give tourists the perception that Thailand is a safe destination,” adding, “This traveler’s safety measure will be implemented by August of this year.”
In January, Thailand reduced the price of alcohol and entertainment establishment taxes to revitalize tourism. In addition to measures to ensure the safety of travelers, the Thai Tourism Organization plans to make more efforts to attract 35 million tourists and achieve its goal of 55 billion dollars in sales this year.
