Thailand is expected to fall short of its target of attracting 30 million foreign tourists this year, thanks to a smaller-than-expected number of visitors from China. Projections from RHB Bank suggest that inbound arrivals from China to Thailand might dip just below 5 million, significantly below the 7 million anticipated by the Thai government. RHB Bank Senior Economist Barnabas Gan cites potential slowing of China’s economic activity in the H2 2021 as a factor that will likely reduce demand for outbound tourism. As of June 25, the number of foreign travellers entering Thailand stood at 12.5 million.
