Turkey’s Tourism Surge and the Upcoming ‘Golden Age of Archaeology’
In a press conference at the Atatürk Cultural Center, Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced a remarkable 10% surge in tourism for the year 2023. The majority of the influx of visitors came from Russia, Germany, and the UK, contributing to an impressive total of 49.2 million foreign tourists. Istanbul, with its rich history and vibrant culture, was the leading attraction for these tourists, followed by Antalya, Edirne, and Mugla.
Golden Age of Archaeology
Ersoy, in his address, unveiled grand plans for the upcoming year, which he referred to as the ‘golden age of archaeology.’ The focus would be on expanding excavations in ancient cities and implementing night museum initiatives. The ambitious Cultural Route project is set to broaden its reach to 16 cities across Turkey including Adana, Sanliurfa, Bursa, Samsun, Trabzon, Van, Nevsehir, Erzurum, Canakkale,…
