The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a Carbon Calculator at the Arabian Travel Market 2024.
This initiative will support the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative.
The tool is designed to help hotels across the emirate monitor and reduce their carbon footprint by providing a dashboard to pinpoint high consumption areas, particularly in energy and water use.
The Carbon Calculator’s methodology was developed in collaboration with the hotel industry, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), and the Department of Energy Abu Dhabi (DoE).
EAD contributed its expertise on GreenHouse Gases (GHGs) accounting methods and tools, aligning the initiative with the EAD’s Green Business Network.
Hotels can use the calculator to track fuel, gas, electricity, and water consumption, converting this data into kilograms of CO2 equivalent (kgCO2e) for industry-wide analysis.
