Indigo, India’s largest airline, is expanding its UAE operations, adding Fujairah International Airport (FJR) to its network. This strategic move enhances connectivity between India and the UAE, particularly catering to the high-demand routes connecting Mumbai and Kerala.
Starting October 11, 2024, Indigo will operate daily direct flights between Mumbai (BOM) and Fujairah. This new route provides a convenient and affordable travel option for business travelers, tourists, and the significant Indian diaspora residing in the UAE. The service from Mumbai is particularly crucial, given Mumbai’s status as India’s financial capital and a major departure point for international travel.
Furthermore, Indigo’s expansion includes increased flight frequencies from Kerala to Fujairah. Flights from Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) will operate four times a week, while services from Kochi (COK) will run three times a week, commencing October 12, 2024. These additions cater to the strong demand from the large Keralite expatriate community in the UAE and facilitate smoother travel for those visiting family or conducting business.
This expansion signifies Indigo’s commitment to strengthening air links between India and the Gulf region. By including Fujairah in its network, Indigo provides passengers with an alternative to the often-congested airports of Dubai and Sharjah, offering a potentially smoother and faster travel experience. Fujairah, located on the eastern coast of the UAE, offers access to a different region of the country, attracting tourists interested in exploring its beaches, mountains, and cultural attractions.
The new routes are expected to stimulate tourism and trade between India and the UAE, providing greater accessibility and competitive fares. Indigo’s focus on affordable air travel makes these routes appealing to a wide range of passengers, solidifying its position as a key player in the India-UAE aviation market. This strategic addition to Indigo’s network further enhances its international footprint and caters to the growing demand for convenient and budget-friendly travel options between the two nations. Bookings are now open, inviting travelers to explore the convenience of flying directly to Fujairah from key Indian cities.
