Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International’s loyalty program, is introducing new benefits and enhancements designed to offer greater flexibility and value for its members. These updates primarily focus on Nightly Upgrade Awards (NUAs) and the extension of Free Night Awards (FNAs).

Starting in early 2024, Nightly Upgrade Awards will undergo significant changes. Members will gain the ability to apply their NUAs to eligible paid stays, expanding beyond their previous limitation to Free Night Award redemptions only. This enhancement allows members to request an upgrade once their reservation is confirmed, with the upgrade confirmation process beginning five days prior to arrival. Additionally, eligible Nightly Upgrade Awards currently held by members will have their expiration date extended to December 31, 2024. Members typically select NUAs as a Choice Benefit upon achieving Titanium Elite status, which requires 50 nights, and Ambassador Elite status, which requires 75 nights.

The program is also extending the expiration dates for Free Night Awards. Valid Free Night Awards that were issued in 2023, or those that will be issued in 2024, will now expire on June 30, 2025. This initiative builds upon a previous announcement made in January 2023, which extended Free Night Awards issued in 2022 to expire on June 30, 2024. Marriott Bonvoy has paused the expiration of Free Night Awards multiple times since 2020. Furthermore, members globally already have the capability to combine up to 15,000 points with a Free Night Award, allowing them to redeem for stays of higher value, provided the award is eligible for a point top-off. These comprehensive enhancements aim to provide more flexibility and diverse options for members planning their future travel.
