American Airlines has suspended all new pilot training for the remainder of the year after the company’s stock performance severely worsened. The company’s stock has been the worst performing in the S&P 500 over the past month, even as wider markets have improved. This follows extremely poor revenue predictions for Q2, two months into the quarter. Elsewhere, United Airlines halted recruitment of pilots earlier in the year, in response to a delay in the delivery of new Boeing planes. American Airlines had already cut its pilot hiring by 40% year-over-year for 2024, again due to Boeing-related issues. The company had forecasted this in its March guidance.
