Travel companies and hotels are currently staring at a wave of cancellations in Kashmir. While local operators are a worried lot, some industry insiders hope travel will bounce back in the medium to long term.
Cancellations have been ‘significant’ since Tuesday, said Mushtaq Reshi, president of the domestic tour operators association in Kashmir and the MD of Essence Holidays. “This totally inhuman attack on innocent tourists took place at a time when it’s the peak season. People are naturally scared and have requested for cancellations for April and May. While some of our tourist groups are continuing with their sight seeing plans, the impact that this incident will have could be for the long term,” he added.
