Auburn-Opelika tourism saw record tourism numbers in 2023 as the industry continues to bounce back and play a major role in the area’s economy.
The Auburn-Opelika area saw historic numbers for tourism in 2019 and has continued back after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down so many key industries in 2020. In 2023, the area saw visitor spending of $785 million, a 21% increase from 2022 and a new record for tourism in the area, according to Auburn-Opelika tourism.
Brooke Kastner, vice president for Auburn-Opelika tourism, has over 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She joined Auburn-Opelika tourism just four years ago and has seen that growth first hand. She said that there are several factors that led to it, including Auburn University.
“The university is a huge partner and a big draw to the Auburn Opelika area, but there’s so much more in this area that goes into that,” Kastner said.
