Residents and organizations in the northern city of Girona are worried about what they consider the negative consequences of an “overflow of tourism” in the Catalan city.
Locals have come together to form the group ‘Plataforma pel decreixement turísic Girona,’ a platform calling for a reduction in tourists visiting the city, as announced on Thursday during a press conference.
The organization’s manifesto intends to make their voices heard and pressure public administrations to implement urgent measures, as “it is already too late,” and Girona and its urban area have “reached the limit.”
They propose increasing the number of patrols to find illegal tourist apartments or creating a list of all foreign residents living in Girona.
