How Direct Flights Between India and China Dropped From 539 to Zero

India and China, two major global tourism and economic powerhouses, currently have no direct flights between them. In December 2019, they were connected by 539 direct passenger flights with operations by airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, Air China, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines. However, these flights were suspended amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent border clashes that occurred in June 2020. To date, there remain thousands of troops mobilized on both sides.
