Starting June 26, flying out of Europe will become more costly as some of the largest flag carriers in the continent start adding an additional fee for flights departing in the next year. Introduced as an ‘Environmental Cost Surcharge’, it will impact all airlines under the Lufthansa Group. The group includes several major brands like Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, Swiss, and Brussels Airlines, besides operating Germany’s national carrier. The motive behind this added fee is not specified. Short-haul passengers may have to spend a few more euros, whereas expensive tickets may have an added fee of up to €72.
