PNG’s tourism industry may have conducted a blistering K90 million business in 1986.
The number of tourists to the country increased by 24 per cent compared to the previous year.
According to the latest statistics, it is believed there were 33,269 people arriving into the country last year, compared to 30,391 in 1985, representing a rise of over ten per cent.
Of those, 8500 were tourists, compared to 6800 in 1985 a rise of 24 per cent.
This is a reversal of recent trends, which show that the number of tourists coming to PNG between 1981 to 1985 declined by 34 per cent.
It is believed that PNG’s travel and tourism industry made an estimated K90 million in trade as a result of last year’s upturn in international arrivals.
