Panama City Beach leaders discussing balance between safety and tourism industry

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Law enforcement and tourism leaders in Panama City Beach are trying to reach a careful balance after a hectic and violent Spring Break season.

“It was ridiculous, and it was a challenging time for our law enforcement agencies, but our law enforcement officials stepped up,” said Panama City Beach Police Chief J.R. Talamantez.

Law enforcement says the violence this year was largely committed by teens who traveled to the area to party.

Now, city leaders, the Tourist Development Council, and local businesses are trying to figure out how to get the right type of people to the area.
