Wales is set to bring in a tourism tax which will apply to anyone who stays overnight in Wales, whether it’s in an Airbnb, Vrbo, short-term let, hotel, hostel, or campsite. It’s set to be introduced no earlier than 2027.
There will be two levels of charge – up to £1.25 per person per night. Each of the 22 councils in Wales will decide whether to introduce the charge at all. You can read everything we know about the tourism tax so far here.
The new law will also introduce register of visitor accommodation in Wales for the first time from 2026. This will provide a comprehensive list of the wide range of visitor accommodation available across the country.
