Southwest 737 MAX Faces FAA Accident Investigation After Near Mach 1 Dutch Roll
The FAA is investigating a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight on May 25 from Phoenix to Oakland where aircraft registration N8825Q experienced a Dutch Roll with 175 passengers on board.
At 32,000 feet, the aircraft experienced an out-of-phase oscillation, simultaneous yawing and rolling motions, like a car sliding on ice and correcting its trajectory in an unstable manner. The flight crew managed to regain control of the aircraft and safely landed on runway 30 at Oakland International Airport approximately 55 minutes later.
