The U.S. State Department has made two strides to expedite passport processing. In December 2023, it announced that passport processing times were restored to their pre-pandemic levels of six to eight weeks. One move to quicken this process is the establishment of six new passport agencies, increasing the total network to 35 and more than 7,400 public passport acceptance facilities nationwide. Another is the beta test that lets eligible citizens renew their passports online. These initiatives are expected to facilitate easier international travel for Americans.
