A New Zealand man was sued by his girlfriend after he failed to fulfil his promise to take her to the airport and care for her dogs while she was away. Due to his absence, the girlfriend missed her flight. She used this as grounds to sue for a breach of contract, despite the fact that the couple had been together for six and a half years. The New Zealand court, roughly the equivalent to a US small claims court, ruled there was no contractual obligation, only a casual promise. The woman had sought compensation for the financial losses she incurred as a result.
