The Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region officially release the results of the tourism Impact Analysis of the Western Upper Peninsula. The final report was developed by the University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute in a cooperative effort to illustrate the economic impact of tourism on Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties. Included in the analysis researchers gathered information from visitors about their activities and spending habits while traveling. As well as gathered data including a variety of characteristics and trends.
WUPPDR plans to use the impact analysis in two ways. First by objectively illustrating the economic impacts of the tourism industry to help gain future grant funds. Second use the analysis to raise the profile of tourism and economic activity taking place in the western Upper Peninsula and inform local business owners, leaders, residents, entrepreneurs, industries, and the general public.
