Rio de Janeiro to introduce tax exemption for tourists

While Brazil has just set a record for tourist numbers in 2024, the state of Rio de Janeiro will be introducing a tax-free scheme for its foreign guests this year. This should further boost the influx of visitors and their spending.

Just as Brazil has set a record for the number of visitors to the city in 2024, and just a few weeks before the start of its emblematic Carnival (February 28 to March 8), the state of Rio de Janeiro is introducing a new benefit for foreign tourists.

Starting this year, the state will be rolling out a tax refund scheme for purchases made by foreign tourists.
