The union representing Air India Express cabin crew members has expressed concerns about flight delays and cancellations, less than two weeks after the strike came to an end. They contend that the pay of the cabin staff is suffering as a result of the fewer flights.

Following a meeting in the nation’s capital between union representatives and the airline, which was arranged by the Chief Labour Commissioner, the cabin staff strike was called off on May 9. This strike, called in retaliation to alleged mismanagement, had led to several flight cancellations and delays.
In a letter to the Commissioner, the union claimed that information about the cabin staff was lost when the scheduling department switched to a new software program. It added that in order to help the scheduling department handle flight delays and cancellations, cabin crew members are currently assisting manually.
The crew members have also asked the Commissioner for immediate action, pointing out that the lower number of flights is affecting the earnings of the cabin crew, which are determined by their flying hours.
There has been no comment from the airline on the matter. Referring to the recent strike, an airline official said that several cabin crew members reported sick at the same time as a new staff scheduling system went into effect. This has prolonged the stabilizing process even though a lot of problems have been resolved. The following conference for conciliation is slated to take place on May 28.
