Flight makes emergency landing over fire, lapse in alternative facility arranged by Air India; passengers protest

BENGALURU: There is a lapse in the alternative facility arranged for the passengers to fly to Kochi after the flight made an emergency landing at the Bengaluru airport following the fire noticed in one of the engines. 120 of the 179 passengers on Air India Express starting at 9.20 am were given boarding passes for another flight.

Air India Express said the others will be boarded in the next flight. However, if that happens, many of those traveling with their families will have to travel in two flights and so the passengers protested. Even though boarding passes were given to 120 people, the passengers were not ready to board the flight. The passengers demanded that they want their families to travel together.

After the plane landed in Bengaluru airport following the fire, no alternative arrangements were initially made. The alternative arrangement was made after the passengers protested against this. The problems did not end there. Passengers with minor injuries spent the whole night at the airport. It was also alleged that some passengers were shifted to hotels but some were not provided any facilities.

The Bengaluru-Kochi flight made an emergency landing at Bengaluru airport at 11.12 pm last night after the engine caught fire. The fire in one of the engines was noticed after takeoff. There were 179 passengers and six crew on board.
