Mumbai, May 9:Β A 51-year-old passenger, identified as Balakrishna Rajayan, found himself in legal trouble after lighting a cigarette inside the washroom of a Vistara flight en route from Oman’s Muscat to Mumbai. The incident, which occurred on Vistara’s UK-234 flight on Monday, May 6, raised concerns about safety and compliance with aviation regulations. The disruptive act drew immediate attention from the flight crew after they found cigarette buds in the wash basin, triggering a swift response to mitigate the risk posed to all onboard.
As reported by India Today,Β Rajayan, hailing from Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari, disregarded the no-smoking policy aboard the aircraft, sparking alarm when the pilot detected smoke with the assistance of a smoke detector system and promptlyΒ alerted the cabin crew to investigate. A subsequent inspection of the washroom revealed a cigarette bud in the wash basin, confirming the violation. During the interrogation, Rajayan admitted to the offence, even presenting the matchbox used to light the cigarette. The filed complaint accuses Rajayan of deliberately flouting safety protocols, jeopardising the lives of all passengers onboard the flight.
