New Delhi: Air India on Saturday issued an apology and extended a travel voucher worth USD 350 to each passenger on the San Francisco-bound flight originating from Delhi, which experienced a delay of over 30 hours. The flight finally departed from the national capital at 9:55 PM on Friday and reached San Francisco at 12:45 PM (IST) on Saturday. The duration of the flight was around 16 hours.
In a letter addressed to the passengers of the flight, Klaus Goersch, Air India Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, wrote, “Please allow me to sincerely apologise, on behalf of Air India, for the extended delay in bringing you to San Francisco, which was caused by several technical delays and other operational constraints.”
As a gesture of apology, Air India has provided a “travel voucher worth USD 350” for future travel with the airline, according to a letter dated May 31. Passengers also have the option to credit the amount instead of redeeming it for travel.
“We are very sorry for this lapse in our service and the inconvenience caused to you,” the letter read.

Earlier on Friday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show-cause notice to Air India regarding the delays in at least two international flights and the airline’s “failure to take due care of the passengers”. The notice cited the delays of two international flights: AI 183 from Delhi to San Francisco on May 30 and AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco on May 24.
