A couple has filed a federal lawsuit against United Airlines, claiming their 6-year-old daughter was burned and disfigured after a hot meal served by a flight attendant spilled into her lap during a flight to Newark.
Michal and Ben Fefferman, who are residents of Israel, state in court papers they were on a flight from Tel Aviv on July 20, 2022, when they requested a child’s meal.
A flight attendant handed Michal Fefferman a hot meal and the mother placed the tray in front of her daughter on a fold-down tray table, according to the suit filed Feb. 7 in U.S. District Court.
The lawsuit says the folding meal tray was defective and slanted downward, toward the child’s seat.
“As a result of the defective tray table, (the child’s) meal slid off and landed in her lap,” the suit says, alleging the food was “unreasonably hot” and caused the girl to suffer severe burns.
