We understand family’s situation, need time to reply: Air India responds to Amrita, widow of Nambi Rajesh

Air India Company has responded to Amrita who was unable to see her husband for the last time due to unexpected strike by Air India Express employees.

Air India’s nodal officer’s response said that Amrita’s complaint is being investigated and time is needed to reply. The company said it understands the family’s current situation and shares their grief.

Air India officials contacted the family. Air India officials had directed the family to send an e-mail clarifying the demand following the family’s protest with the dead body of Nambi Rajesh. An email was sent to the airline demanding compensation.

Amrita, in a mail sent to Air India, said that she has two children, aged five and three, and that her life has been disrupted due to the untimely death of her husband, who was the sole source of income for the family. Amrita also pointed out in the mail that her husband would not have met this fate if he had received her closeness and care.

Rajesh collapsed at work in Muscat on the 7th of this month. Amrita and her mother Chitra booked tickets for Air India Express at 8 am to meet Rajesh, but when they reached the airport, they learned that the flights were cancelled due to the strike. The company said they would book them tickets for the next day, but it didn’t happen. Amrita’s journey to take care of her husband was thus halted.

Rajesh, who came to know the information, informed that he can come home even though he has health problems. He was supposed to arrive on the 26th but it was the news of Rajesh’s death that reached Amrita on the 13th. Rajesh’s native place is Madurai. He has been in Muscat for nine years. Their daughter Anika will be joining the first standard and son Shailesh will be joining LKG. Amrita is a second-year nursing student. The family lives in a rented house.

After Rajesh’s body was brought to Thiruvananthapuram, his relatives had protested in front of the Eanchakkal office of Air India Express. Rajesh’s father-in-law protested inside the office.

A video of Amrita among the stranded passengers during the strike was all over the media. Amrita had responded to the media helplessly that she should go somehow. Amrita’s mother had told the media that she made many requests to the company representatives from the airport but still no one helped.
