Madrid, Jan 26 (EFE).- India and the Maldives have left behind their diplomatic spat caused by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the Lakshadweep archipelago and are committed to working together, India’s ambassador to Spain told EFE on Friday.
In the Maldives, Modi’s visit in January to promote the Indian archipelago as a tourist destination was seen as a provocation to hurt them in a sector that accounts for 30% of the GDP of the small Indian archipelago.
Lakshadweep, made up of 35 islands and still undeveloped, and the Maldives, of some 1,000 islands full of resorts, are located almost opposite each other in the Indian Ocean and both have similar crystal clear waters and idyllic landscapes.
